Japan: New SWITCH!SWITCH! Exhibition Starts at Creative Museum AkeruE
A new exhibition called SWITCH!SWITCH! on the theme of switches opened at the Panasonic Creative Museum AkeruE in February 2024.
AkeruE opened in April 2021 as a facility in the Panasonic Center Tokyo, the Panasonic Group's comprehensive information sharing hub. Incorporating elements of a science museum, art museum, and workshop together on a base of STEAM education,* it operates as a place to stimulate the curiosity, investigative spirit, and inspiration of children. The new exhibition marks the third anniversary of the facility and a major increase in the number of visitors, including school groups. It allows people to not only experience the facility but also provides content that each person can take home with them to enjoy. Switches, the theme of this exhibition, are the first point of contact that start up home electronics and wiring instruments. They can be found on every product. The many switches on display will give a greater sense of familiarity with Panasonic.
*STEAM: A comprehensive approach to learning integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. It is an educational concept to teach comprehensive knowledge for an age of diversity.
The new SWITCH!SWITCH exhibition features switches in several formats. Pressing them activates and changes the story shown on the monitor. Visitors can experience two stories (The Mysterious World of Consumer Electronics and A Mysterious Eureka Day), enjoying the unpredictable ways the stories change as they choose which switches to press. The results are printed on thermal paper that they can take home to read the story they experienced once again. They can also access the site using a two-dimensional bar code. An element of choice is given as to which switch to press or not press. The way the SWITCH!SWITCH! story changes when the switches are pressed gives visitors a sense of how their decisions shape the future and an experience of the joy and excitement of making choices.
