Japan: 2024 NPO/NGO Support Fund Recipients Decided
Panasonic Holdings Corporation announced on December 14, 2023, the 17 recipient organizations of the Panasonic NPO/NGO Support Fund for SDGs in 2024, with a total of 29.14 million yen (USD 200,000) to be given as aid.
The fund provides domestic and overseas subsidies to NPOs and NGOs working on the global social issue of ending poverty so that they can engage in social transformation for sustainable development. It offers assessments to find problems in their organizations and aids them in efforts to strengthen their infrastructure for solving such problems and enhancing their management.
Sixty-four organizations applied to the fund. The eight overseas ones chosen are active in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa in regional development, education, medical care, women's independence, and public health. The nine domestic organizations are active not only in ending economic poverty but also on a wide range of issues such as social isolation and poverty prevention.
The Panasonic Group established the Panasonic NPO Support Fund in 2001 in recognition of the importance of strengthening the organizational infrastructure of NPOs and NGOs so that they can strategically solve social issues. The aid program was revamped in FY2018 as the Panasonic NPO/NGO Support Fund for SDGs. It has provided support worth 621.65 million yen (USD 4.2 million) to 478 organizations, including the recipients chosen this year. By aiding stronger organizational infrastructure for NPOs and NGOs who play a key role in society, Panasonic aims to realize the sustainable development of corporate citizenship activities and promote solutions to social issues.
