Social Good Meetups on Environmental Themes Held for Four Consecutive Weeks
The PEX Corporate Citizenship Department held Social Good Meetups themed on the environment for four consecutive weeks in June to coincide with the Environment Month. A total of 630 people took part.
To promote social action by the participants, the meetups focused on what environmental efforts people can do themselves in their everyday lives. Experts in each field lectured on
(1) biodiversity, (2) preserving satoyama (seminatural areas near populated areas),
(3) preserving the oceans, and (4) getting in touch with nature. Typical comments by the participants were "I could see how biodiversity has a major impact on corporate activities" and "I didn't know that Panasonic is helping to preserve the oceans through action like sustainable seafood." In questionnaires after the meetups over 90% of participants said that they wanted to think of specific action to take.
In a further questionnaire one month after the meetups on June 8, 77% of respondents said that they had discussed what they learned with family members and acquaintances and that they were taking some sort of action, including becoming volunteers.
The PEX Corporate Citizenship Department will continue to encourage employees to take social action through opportunities to raise awareness like the Social Good Meetups, to realize a "Sustainable and inclusive society where everyone can live a vibrant life more freely".
