Panasonic Scholarship Alumni exchange meeting
On February 16, the PEX Corporate Citizenship Department held the Panasonic Scholarship Alumni Exchange Meeting online. The Panasonic Scholarship is a scholarship program established in 1998 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the company's founding. With the aim of developing young talent who will lead Asian countries in the 21st century, this program has supported students from eight Asian countries and regions (Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and Taiwan) who are studying for a master's degree in science or engineering in Japan. The program changed its name to the current Panasonic Scholarship Asia in 2014 as a community-based support program for the development of the next generation and is now providing financial support to students studying at local universities and vocational training schools in nine countries and regions, with Cambodia joining the program later. Furthermore, rather than limiting its support to students, this scholarship gives support to graduates as well so that they can build networks with other graduates who are playing an active part around the world after graduation.
Of the 370 graduates certified between 1998 and 2013, 47 graduates and related parties attended the meeting from around the world, including those from non-Asian countries such as graduates working in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and each of them gave an update in Japanese. Currently, alumni are working as global leaders in more than 100 cities around the world in various fields such as healthcare, education, IT, consulting, and finance, and in various opportunities in corporations, universities, and governments. Although the event was held online, it was a meaningful opportunity for alumni to interact with each other. Graduates who participated the meeting, including those who work for our group companies, commented; "I am grateful for the Panasonic Scholarship; it has changed my life and I hope the exchange will continue to be held in the future" and "I was happy to see alumni for the first time since I graduated from the course."
In the coming year and beyond, we will continue to hold alumni reunions as a place for exchange among alumni and promote Panasonic Scholarship Asia as a platform for other corporate citizenship activities. Furthermore, a website was launched after being redesigned and features the background of the program's establishment, certification ceremonies in individual countries, and messages from graduates. An introductory video is also available, so please check it out!
The renewal WEB site is now OPEN!
