WWF is one of the world's leading conservation organizations, operating in more than 100 countries and addressing global challenges such as biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. In support of this mission, the Panasonic Group has provided ongoing support for many years as a corporate member of WWF Japan, while also collaborating on and supporting the following individual projects.

  • Ariake Sea tidal flat conservation and environmental education activities (2001-2006)
  • Shiraho coral reef conservation activities (2002-2004)
  • Yellow Sea Ecoregion support project (2008-2015)
  • Support for environmentally conscious aquaculture restoration in Minami-Sanriku (2014-2024)

In particular, through the "Support for environmentally conscious aquaculture restoration in Minami-Sanriku" initiative, oysters farmed in Minami-Sanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, became the first in Japan to receive ASC certification. Building on this initiative, the Panasonic Group became the first Japanese company to introduce MSC- and ASC-certified sustainable seafood at company cafeterias in 2018. The program remains in place today, helping raise employee awareness and promote more sustainable consumption behavior.

※MSC certification is granted by the Marine Stewardship Council to fisheries that are sustainably and responsibly managed, while ASC certification is granted by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council to aquaculture operations that minimize environmental and social impacts.
