India: "Aarogya" Health Project Targeting Slum and Rural Communities

ind_1.png

In India, the 2013 revision of the Companies Act mandates that companies of a certain scale allocate a portion of their net profits to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities*¹.

Panasonic Life Solutions India (PLSIND), as a designated company, implements a variety of social contribution programs primarily in regions where our offices and factories are located.

The focus is on supporting individuals facing economic and social hardship to achieve hygienic, healthy, and economically sustainable lives.

Our main activity is the "Aarogya*²" health project, which improves medical access and promotes health and hygiene in slum and rural areas.

*¹ According to Section 135 of the Indian Companies Act,  companies are required to spend at least 2% of the net profits on CSR activities.
*² Aarogya means "health" in Sanskrit.

 Regional Healthcare Project in Haridwar

ind_1_2.pngLaunched in 2016 in Haridwar, northern India, this project focuses on providing medical support for seasonal diseases, assisting severely malnourished children, and providing prenatal care. In FY2024, approximately 24,000 people received consultations through this initiative. To date, over 100,000 households across more than 80 villages have benefited from our medical services, making a significant contribution to improving community health.

 Mobile Medical Services in Thane

ind_2.pngSince 2023, PLSIND has operated mobile medical services in the slum areas of Thane, part of the Mumbai metropolitan region, to support access to healthcare. Through these services, approximately 12,000 people per year receive appropriate diagnosis and affordable medication.

Meal Support at Hospitals and Schools

ind_3_2.pngAt ten government hospitals in Mumbai and Thane, we provide free daily meals to patients' relatives, currently supporting 1,880 people each day. We also arrange mid-day meals for about 10,000 children from underprivileged families attending 88 government schools in Thane, Daman, Delhi, and other areas.
These efforts not only ensure nutrition for the children but also reduce school dropouts.

Menstrual Hygiene Support for Adolescent Girls

ind_4_2.pngTo enhance menstrual hygiene awareness among adolescent girls, we have installed sanitary napkin vending and disposal machines at 20 public schools and educational institutions.

We also support children with hearing impairments by providing hearing aids and fostering digital education.

Through these sustainable, community-based efforts, PLSIND continues to make a tangible impact on Indian society.
