Panasonic Eco Technology Center (PETEC), located in Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture, has been operating since 2001 as an advanced base for recycling appliances to promote recycling-oriented manufacturing that goes under the slogan of "product to product."

To raise awareness about the importance of appliance recycling, PETEC has long welcomed factory tours and hosted hands-on educational programs.

During the summer vacation, PETEC expands its outreach beyond the factory by holding traveling workshops, primarily at facilities across the Kansai region.

This year, PETEC conducted appliance recycling workshops at the Hyogo Environmental Experience Center, Otsumo Community Center, and Himeji Science Museum upon their request.

Additionally, in collaboration with Panasonic Operational Excellence Co., Ltd. Business Solutions Division and Earth hacks & Co., Ltd.--a company established by Mitsui & Co. and others to promote a decarbonized society--PETEC hosted the recycling workshops in the "Shiodome Summer School 2025," hosted by Nippon Television Holdings.

These events provided many participants with an enjoyable opportunity to learn about environmental issues.

In the workshops, participants first learned about PETEC's initiatives through videos and photos. The highlight of the program was a hands-on disassembly of a flat-screen TV, offering a real-world experience of appliance recycling.

Children wore protective gear such as cut-resistant gloves and safety goggles--items they don't usually encounter in daily life--which heightened their excitement.

For many children, it was their first time loosening screws by turning them counterclockwise. Although they initially struggled with the unfamiliar task, they gradually got the hang of it and picked up speed as the session progressed.

PETEC will continue to lead the industry by advancing recycling technologies and strengthening ties with local communities, striving to promote and deepen understanding of appliance recycling.
