Singapore:50 Trees Planted to Mark World Environment Day and 50th Founding Anniversary of PA
On June 4 Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (PA) held a tree planting event on Pulau Ubin (a quiet island off the northeast coast of Singapore; the name means "granite island" in Malay) to mark World Environment Day (June 5) and the company's 50th founding anniversary.* Some 50 employees and members of the Singaporean government joined in to plant 50 native Singaporean trees of eight varieties.
The event was part of Panasonic ECO RELAY and aimed to raise awareness toward biodiversity conservation and contribute to environmental sustainability. PA planted trees on Pulau Ubin in 2018 to mark the Group's 100th anniversary. PA Managing Director Atsushi Sugishima noted this in his speech, stating that "Today's tree planting is a continuation of our green journey. I hope the planting today will further contribute in conservating this site." In regard to Panasonic GREEN IMPACT, the Group's long-term environmental vision, he said that "To achieve the goal, we will reduce CO2 emissions from our business activities to achieve net zero CO2 emissions from our operations by 2030 and contribute to the decarbonization of the society through our technologies, products and services. We also hope to bring about positive influence on society, encouraging individuals in changing their behavior and raising their environmental awareness through our social and corporate citizenship activities."
