Japan: Expansion of Internal and External Initiatives for Fukushima "Reconstruction" Support Action

Other Activities

2024.05.23

The Panasonic Group in collaboration with Fukushima Prefecture has since January 2022 provided menu items aiding Fukushima's reconstruction at PHD/PEX head office cafeterias. The aim is to support Fukushima, which is still subject to baseless rumors about the quality of its produce, by eating meals made with food from the prefecture.

This initiative has now grown to 24 worksites, and the Fukushima Marche market to support the prefecture by buying its products has been held 15 times at 11 worksites.

The first non-company market was held in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya in collaboration with Mitsui Fudosan Building Management Co., Ltd. as a new initiative for FY2023.

Further efforts will be undertaken to spread such activities outside the company, such as selling packaged meals and serving from food trucks dishes made with Fukushima produce in collaboration with Seven & i Food Systems Co., Ltd.福島キッチンカー.jpg

A Social Good Meetup (discussion group on social issues for employees) was held on March 5 with the theme of "Current Issues in Public Relations for Fukushima--Promoting Understanding Domestically and Internationally." Kentaro Kawamata of the Fukushima Prefectural Public Relations Strategy Office was invited to be the speaker, following from last year. We will continue to undertake similar activities to raise awareness and ensure correct understanding of efforts by Fukushima Prefecture to ensure the safety of its food.

We intend to contribute to disaster recovery through several actions, such as widening cooperation with food service providers and other companies, expanding the range of menu items provided in employee cafeterias, and holding more markets outside the company. We will also broaden our social action movement to encourage individuals inside and outside the company to change their consumption behavior toward achieving SGD 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
