Ryozen Museum of History Launches 2026 Illustration Contest and Summer Exhibition
The Ryozen Museum of History, operated by the Ryozen Foundation, an organization affiliated with the Panasonic Group, is currently accepting illustration entries from students at elementary, junior high, and high schools, as well as colleges, vocational schools and other educational institutions. Under the theme of "Historical Figures of the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration Period," the contest aims to foster a deeper interest in history by encouraging participants to learn about the aspirations and achievements of those who paved the way for Japan's modernization, thereby contributing to public education.

The museum opened in 1970 as a specialized museum dedicated to the comprehensive study of the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration periods. Its first director was Konosuke Matsushita, the founder of the Panasonic Group, and the building was built by Obayashi Corporation.
The museum has amassed over 5,000 artifacts and documents related to figures such as Ryoma Sakamoto and Toshizo Hijikata, including materials associated with the Shinsengumi and the Bakufu (Shogunate). Approximately 100 of these carefully selected items are displayed in its permanent and special exhibitions.
The museum is currently presenting its summer exhibition, "Shinsengumi Warrior Chronicles."
