The Panasonic IMPULSE (6-1) put forth a solid effort in the first playoff game to hold off a late comeback attempt by the Asahi Beer SILVER STAR (3-4), 21-14. Both teams started out slow, with no points being scored in the first quarter, but the Impulse rushed out to a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Tatsuya Tonka scored on a touchdown pass from Tetsuo Takada and Takashi Ohara added a score on the ground.
The second half was a different story as IMPULSE was held to 7 points and the SILVER STAR put up 14 in the 4th.
The Silver Star had a chance to comeback when it was 14-7 early in the 4th, but a poorly executed onside kick by the Silver Star set up the Impulse at the 2 yard line to go up 21-7.
Asahi scored not long after that to make it 21-14, but the Impulse recovered a second onside kick and then ran the clock out to seal the playoff win.
The IMPULSE continues on with their semifinal game against the Obic SEAGULLS who are undefeated at 7-0.
This game is sure to be a good one as both teams are hungry.
The Impulse would like to repeat as champions while the Seagulls would like to return to their glory days when they won 4 straight titles from 2010-2013.
