THE IMPULSE OVERPOWER THE NAGOYA CYCLONES ON THEIR WAY TO 4-0

The Panasonic IMPULSE scored early and often on their way to a rout versus the Nagoya Cyclones at Oji Stadium.

IMPULSE RB #24 Ben Dupree, who currently is the X League’s leading rusher after 4 games (44 CAR, 435 YDS, 8 TD), kicked things off with a nice 7 yard touchdown run two minutes into the game. IMPULSE Kicker #11 Eita Saeki then added a field goal later in the 1st quarter to push the lead to 10-0.

Early in the 2nd quarter, veteran IMPULSE QB #8 Tetsuo “Iron Man” Takata then hit playmaking IMPULSE WR #15 Tatsuya “Moss” Tonka for a 7 yard touchdown pass, followed up by another crowd pleasing 47 yard scamper for a touchdown by Dupree. Saeki added another field goal to end the 2nd quarter and the IMPULSE took a commanding 27-0 lead over the Cyclones heading into the half.

The Cyclones misfortunes continued in the 3rd quarter, as IMPULSE DL #58 Takuya Kuramoto earned his first interception of the season by picking off a pass on the Cyclones 1st play from scrimmage. The IMPULSE then put the ball in the hands of Tetsuo and the savvy veteran once again connected with “Moss” Tonka, this time on a 20 yard touchdown throw and run.

Following a quick three and out series for the Cyclones, IMPULSE RB Ben Dupree again went to work, this time on the punt return team, house calling a punt return 62 yards as if he wanted to trick the world into believing that legendary NFL RB Barry Sanders had not yet retired.

IMPULSE RB #39 Hayato “Keihan” Araki then found the end zone himself, pounding the ball into the end zone on a 7 yard touchdown run on the way to a 48-0 IMPULSE lead to close the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, the rout moved into full throttle, as Dupree rushed for a 2 yard touchdown and IMPULSE QB #18 Takashi Ohara connected with WR #4 Koji “SMAP” Takagi on a 16 yard touchdown pass. IMPULSE CB #10 Emory Polley then put the finishing polish on the game, displaying smooth moves on his way to a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter.

The IMPULSE offense ended the day with 467 yards of total offense and 7 touchdowns. The IMPULSE defense held strong throughout the day, limiting the Cyclones to a total of 78 yards.

Next up, the IMPULSE will take on the Elecom Kobe FINIES (3-1) on October 17th at Oji Stadium to close out the 1st stage slate of games in the X League’s West Division. The Finies, currently 3rd place in the west division following a loss to the 2nd place Asahi Challengers, beat the IMPULSE in the 2014 regular season 27-24. A win over the Finies this time around would earn the IMPULSE the 2015 X League West Division Championship as they move into the 2nd stage slate of games set to start at the end of October.
