Panasonic to Release the World Heritage
Online Calendar
Osaka, Japan - Panasonic Corporation and UNESCO World Heritage Centre today announced that the two companies have released an online version of the World Heritage Calendar 2011. It is available as a website, a downloadable stand-alone application or wallpaper in five languages.
Featuring stunning photographs of 12 World Heritage sites for one year, the calendar includes the short explanation of sites in English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese. There is also a game consisting of matching photos of sites with illustrations related to them. The online version especially aims to educate young people around the world and more content will be added in the near future.
"We are extremely pleased to see this new version of the calendar," said Francesco Bandarin, UNESCO Assistant-Director General for Culture. "Its advanced technology and appealing design will allow young people around the world to learn about the heritage sites in a friendly manner."
Panasonic and UNESCO World Heritage Center which have produced the paper calendar featuring the World Heritage since 1995 to raise awareness of preserving World Heritage sites. The online calendar has been produced as a further step of the paper version.

About UNESCO World Heritage Center
Established in 1992, the World Heritage Centre is the focal point and coordinator within UNESCO for all matters related to World Heritage. Ensuring the day-to-day management of the Convention, the Centre organizes the annual sessions of the World Heritage Committee and its Bureau, provides advice to States Parties in the preparation of site nominations, organizes international assistance from the World Heritage Fund upon request, and coordinates both the reporting on the condition of sites and the emergency action undertaken when a site is threatened. The Centre also organizes technical seminars and workshops, updates the World Heritage List and database, develops teaching materials to raise awareness among young people of the need for heritage preservation, and keeps the public informed of World Heritage issues.
