Panasonic Announces Eco Ideas Declaration in Latin America
Osaka, Japan - Panasonic Corporation and Panasonic Corporation of Latin America (PLA), the headquarters of Panasonic's Latin American operations, announced the Eco Ideas Declaration for the region in Playa Matapalo, Costa Rica. By adopting the declaration, they aim to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in Latin America as part of Panasonic's group-wide commitment to taking the lead in bringing forth green innovation in the world.
Panasonic is striving to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronic Industry with a global perspective by 2018, the 100th anniversary of its foundation. To achieve this goal, the company is pursuing its Eco Ideas for Lifestyles by promoting sustainable and comfortable green lifestyles as well as Eco Ideas for Business-styles with aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations to a maximum extent and spread technologies and ideas that are brought forth through such reduction efforts. Panasonic is combining these environmental efforts and business growth.
The declaration in Latin America followed those adopted in Europe in October 2008 and in Asia Pacific in June 2009. Panasonic has been leading environmental initiatives that are tailored to the local conditions in these regions. The pledge in Latin America underscores Panasonic's commitment to offering a green lifestyle to people in the Latin American countries as well as pursuing a green business-style in its business activities.
"There is a greater awareness of environmental issues in Latin America, the region rich in nature such as rain forests in Amazon and Central America," said PLA Chief Executive Officer Hidetsugu Uji. "To help conserve the natural environment, Panasonic pledges to reduce CO2 emissions by 10 percent from manufacturing and double the sales of our industry-leading environment-conscious products. We will also encourage Panasonic employees to lead the conservation efforts in cooperation with local communities."
