UK: PMUK held 'kids school - eco learning' seminars
April 21, 2011
Panasonic Manufacturing UK Ltd (PMUK) held 'kids school - eco learning' seminars at its premises on the 16th March with 30 schools attending. Feedback from teachers includes "the information is just what we need as we are all heavily involved in teaching the children about the environment." On top of learning about the programme, all the schools would like to know more about Panasonic and have requested school visits to see Panasonic's energy saving and recycling programmes. It will be a lot of work for the staff but they are keen to respond to the schools' interests.
5 schools have been involved including Hollies School which look after special needs children. They have different levels of learning abilities but they love to get involved in such activities and have some fantastic eco ideas.
The programme extends to wider aspects. PMUK are working in conjunction with the Cardiff City Council forestry commission who as part of their ongoing tree planting programme will be planting a tree for every child who participates in the programme at their school. PMUK will also be trying to translate the Eco Picture Diary into Welsh as they have some Welsh language schools interested in the programme. The programme is even contributing to local language education. They are hoping to have around 1,000 children signed up within the next 6 months.
